Meet the People Behind the Stories
We talk with the people who turn ideas into something real — about their work, their process, where inspiration comes from, and what it takes to create something worth remembering.
Creators we got to learn from

Jim Rugg
In this episode, we sit down with Eisner Award–winning cartoonist Jim Rugg, the newest member of the VeeFriends Comics creative team.
We dive into the real highs and lows of the comics industry over the years, and explore what makes VeeFriends Comics feel genuinely different. Jim shares how traits and character-driven storytelling elevate these comics beyond entertainment—and how comics, at their best, can build community, spark conversations, and actually impact people’s lives.

Brian Michael Bendis
Bendis is one of Tom's favorite writers, especially his run on Daredevil. After introducing Anne to his work she decided to take a class with him. In this episode Anne is back from Rose City Comic Con and shares some highlights from the convention, including getting to take a comic-writing class with legendary writer Brian Michael Bendis and what she learned about storytelling and creating comics.

DJ Coffman
In this episode, we sit down with DJ Coffman, the writer and creative director behind VeeFriends Comics, to dive deep into the origin story of the series. From how Issue #1 came to life, to the making of the Special Story Edition "A", DJ takes us behind the scenes of how this universe evolved from sketches into storytelling.
We also talk about DJ’s creative background, early character and story development, and how everything shifted after the first VeeFriends Comic Summit—a creative gathering in the Minnesota woods in March 2025 that changed the course of the series.

Andrew Drilon
We sit down with Andrew Drilon for a thoughtful conversation about comic art, creative process, career risks, and what it means to get the opportunity to contribute to the VeeFriends universe.
Andrew talks about the research and inspiration behind his cover, the character choices and hidden details in the artwork, his experience working with DC, and the path that eventually led him to move to the U.S. to pursue art. We also get into the idea of “falling into” opportunities, the role of hard work and taking chances, upcoming projects, his Harpik back cover, favorite VeeFriends characters, and what it’s been like connecting with the VeeFriends community.

Agnes Garbowska
What goes into creating a VeeFriends comic cover — and how much of yourself ends up in the art? In this episode we sit down with Agnes Garbowska, to talk about her journey in comics, how she developed her style, and the creative process behind bringing the cover to life.
But the conversation goes beyond comics. Agnes, Tom, and Anne also open up about their experiences with being diagnosed with ADHD later in life and how it has influenced their creativity, careers, and the way they move through the world. It’s a conversation about art, identity, creativity, and the ways our brains shape the work we make.
